Disclaimer: I realize what works for one may not work for another, fair enough. This goes out to everyone, newbies and vets alike. Out of (morbid) curiosity, I just want to see what people think about this. Only a vote will suffice. If you feel like elaborating, by all means please do so. Thanks! |

Thanks for your input!
Oh, one more thing - I didn't put a "None of the above" option because I wanted to know what people would choose if they absolutely had to choose one or the other. |

Disptach. I like the 9-5 hours. I hate the retail schedules, and I train during the evening hours. So an Eikaiwa would make my current life style hard to sustain. |

Large groups of small kids scare me only slightly less than large groups of teenagers! I never wanted to be a school teacher, so I have never considered an ALT job. |

fair enough
.... and you don't always teach big groups anyway. I teach in some school that have less than 10 kids in the whole school
I kid you not! |

I would just prefer to be an ALT than work at an eikaiwa. And I've done both. |

Eikaiwa. Largely because I've never been an ALT so Eikaiwa is the only thing I know. I don't have anything to compare it to (in Japan at least), but I really do enjoy my job quite a bit. My co-workers are great, and the students are fun and motivated. I like my schedule and it works for me quite nicely. I haven't had to wake up to an alarm clock in over 3 months and I get home just in time to watch 2 episodes of Roseanne on Nickleodeon via TVUPlayer |

Yeah, working till 10Pm or so on a Tuesday is not for me. I don't see how you can have any real social life to be honest. |

elkarlo, you can have a social life with that kind of schedule because the other eikaiwa teachers have similar schedules. No trouble at all. You do also have days off, and remember that a lot of Japanese people work 9am to 10pm, 5 days a week, every week- hardly anyone here knocks off at 5.30 anyway. |
