|
|
I've been offered a job with Skyline Global Solutions (Al Kaleej training and Education) who recently advertised through the job board. Thing is there was no interview, no real teaching outline and only the premise that I pay for my own medical in the UK for securing my visa.
So I just wondered if anyone could add any info about the company and general hiring processes in the ME.
I'm by no means a sought after teacher - I don't have an MA, only a BA in marketing, a dodgy teaching certificate that's suspect TEFL recognised, but 4 years ESL experience in Asia, so I'm thinking something must be fishy if they'd employ me just like that??

Any company that offers anyone (with minimal credentials) a job with no interview is obviously a company that you don't really want to work for...

write2rhowes,
I don't think you're likely to find any information on this forum gained firsthand and specific to the company you applied to. They were the subject of some posts last week which were subsequently pulled from the site. I came here also seeking info about them, but received general advice like that of VS's. PM me if you want to know about what was said on the vanished posts, and certainly let us all know how it goes with you if you feel so inclined and continue through the hiring process. Best of luck, RD |

First of all, any company that expects you to pay for your own medical is quite mean and may be a sign of things to come.
Secondly, as you point out, they offer a contract without even a brief telephone interview. Another warning sign.
A former discussion on this recruiter / employer has been pulled from here. I think that indicates something, too!
Based on the what you have said, you seem to have doubts about the job - Personally, I would follow my gut feeling.

I think you may be under-selling yourself. Your four years ESL experience should not be under-estimated, especially they were in a school/institute and not just with private students.
More and more institutes are trying to offer Business English and your BA in Marketing could be a very useful qualification. If you were to get a CELTA, you would have a highly desirable combination of skills / qualifications for places like the British Council. The BC also offers staff the opportunity to do the DELTA by distance - a stepping stone to some of the better paying jobs in Saudi and elsewhere.
I know the CELTA is expensive but, if you could find a way to do it where you are or even somewhere relatively cheap to live (Egypt), it would enhance your prospects of getting a decent job in a reputable school/institute in Saudi. Good luck. |

Rio, the reason you would probably get general advice here is that most people here would not have direct experience of this employer. In fact, I'd say most native speakers would avoid such institutes (for a variety of reasons) |

I think your advice to this poster is spot on and helpful. It's also provided in a non-judgmental fashion and demonstrates the type of informed counsel we "newbies" come to this site to encounter.
However, your response still doesn't answer this poster's clearly stated question regarding a very specific company posted in the hope that someone on this forum may have information pertinent to their precise inquiry regarding a company to which they had applied.
Are you able to inform us specifically about Skyline Global Recruiting and the experience you had with them? |

ps: I'm as native a speaker as they come and considered employment with them. |
