you misunderstand the core point of my post - which is about comparing the west and China.
After all the book counts for so much back home - while here (at least for the FT) - its mostly appearance!!!!! |
sorry 4 being so froggy...u are right
The FE book primarily was not created for English Teachers, instead those books went to craftsmen who could teach new industrial tech to Chinese workmen and when they were issued to teachers, they were teachers. Later on the FE book became the admin. way of fulfilling an industry and it brought down the prestige value. |

By the way Eddie after all those China years - what kind of job could you now find if you did go back home |
I had interesting positions there before, so I am pretty confident I can occupy one of those again.
You know, to get on in life one must be willing to learn new things, acquire coveted skills and to jettison some of one's old confidence-supporting beliefs - you know like 'I am a helluva well-educated teacher and the principal had better listen to me!'
Turning the table to you: How about you, Vicky? |

Me eddy - well I'm just an ol' weary bones - who would find it hard to get going again back home.
But I've got my businesses and property out here to support me - and of course my interests, so I can stay put for the time being.
Being a realist I also know how qualifications in the west - especially if they're not used - soon get outdated - I learnt that when my agricultural degree soon lost its value only a couple of years after I got out of farming - and I also expect teaching qualifications I gained in my second degree to rather pale (at least in the eyes of an employer back home) after so many years of China teaching.
I'm afraid another bad thing about the China FT job is that you do have to be careful not to start sailing up a creek to nowhere
So back to you Eddy - you reckon your teaching qualifications are up to getting you a teaching job back in the west? |
