Hi

Bit of background before the question:

5 years Tefl experience overseas and in UK, BA but not in English, almost finished writing a Tefl book andwill try to get it published, speak another language.

So, my wife and I would like to try our luck in Taiwan.

We'll try to live the monk life, rarely venturing out of our appartment, if only to go to a restaurant or possible sporting activity.

Aim is to save �12,000/$16,500 in the course of a year.

Is this feasible?

Depending on where you are living, how much traveling around you do and if you are both working - yes.

But you'll probably be bored to tears.

Will your wife be working, too? If you have two salaries, you could hit your financial target by living off one salary and saving the other (and still have a bit of a life, depending on where you choose to live (you may find that being a hermit in Taiwan can be quite depressing!!).

The answer to this question is always the same annoying and ambiguous one: it depends.

I work at a cram school 6 days a week, and if I really put my mind to it, I could save that kind of money. It would be much easier, however, if I took a morning kindy job, 5 days a week. But if my spouse were also working, I could save that no problem. I think another poster says that above.

Being a hermit in Taiwan shouldn't be hard, especially if you're in an average town. But really, you don't have to be to save that kinda dough.

I'm sure you know this, but you have to acct for your start up expenses in your greater financial plan.

Yeah, maybe i was overdoing it with the monkish metaphor but basically we�d be there to save.

I�ve been checking out some of the jobs online.

Does having teaching experience count that much? Could i expect to get paid quite a bit more with 5 years teaching experience than someone who has none?
