So I'm having trouble with my thesis. I need reference books. The English library doesn't allow you to check out the books I need, they limit you to 10 copies and no laptops are allowed. Does anyone know of a online library or something where I can find reference books? |

Hi Naturegirl,
Check out the following US-based online library : www.questia.com .The annual charge is around 25 USD. As I don't have access to an English-langauge library here, in a backwater of a town in Zhejiang, I have found Questia to be real god-send - not just for my general reading, but also with respect to my current Master's programme. If you decide to join Questia, tell them that I recommended you to them - they will probably reduce the annual charge for next year by a few dollars ! Also, if you happen to come across any other good online libraries - free or otherwise - please let me know - I'm always on the lookout for other sources of information.
Also, contact the uni where you did your first degree at. Many unis often provide borrowing privileges for their graduates - including access to online journal articles. BTW, doesn't your current uni have online resources that you can access ?
Incidently, what degree course are you enrolled in ? You might recall that about 5 years ago we exchanged messages about postgraduate courses in Australia. At the time, you were toying with either doing a Dip.Ed., or an M.Appl.Ling. Did you ever get around in going to Australia - or, enrolling in a distance-education programme being run by UNE ?
Regards,
Peter |

Sorry - but in my posting I said that Questia's charge is about 25 USD pa. I can't recall the actual amount but I think that it is actually 16-20 USD - a MONTH ! If you are considering studying for a number of years, you might want to consider taking out lifelong membership.

Thanks, but I don-t think that I can afford it.
I have found these
www.eric.ed.gov
http://www.brookes.ac.uk/library/efl/eflweb.html
Haven-t contacted my first uni, this one now, once I finished the courses I had no access to any online stuff. Which is dumbe since I need them for my thesis.
It-s an MA in TEFL from FUNIBER (universidad de jaen)
I didn-t go to OZ, got accepted, then met a guy and got married. Stayed in Peru, and simply can-t afford the good ones from NZ or OZ. I got accepted to the PGDE at LaTrobe. But like I said, peru is very third world, can-t afford it. |

ERIC is an excellent source since it is interdisciplinary and is the storehouse for all published papers and theses in Education. Also try the AERA American Educational Research Association. |

Your avatar location suggests that you're in Lima. Most embassies from my country (The Land of the Big BX) have facilities that provide access to databases such as Lexus-Nexus. Have your tried your embassy?

It was games, but now I'm thinking about doing motivation for private students. But I'm not sure. I have to ask my tutor. I doubt the US would help, they have a fortress. Getting in is a pain.
What's the land of the Big BX? |

See, now, I'm showing my age! That was a term of endearment given to the good 'ol U.S. of A. during the Vietnam War...the Navy or Marines probably would have called it "The Land of the Big PX"...johnslat can correct me on this.
BX = Base Exchange... PX = Port (or was it "Post"???) Exchange...a kinda military department store. Ima AF brat...ergo "BX"!!!

Dear NCTBA,
Yup, we, the USMC - except for the REMFs, (a hint, the first two initials stand for Rear Echelon; the rest, well, I think you can figure it out) used to call it "The Land of the Big PX" (Post Exchange.)

Google Scholar actually ain't half bad. Lots of times, I'll find articles and such there that I can't find through the research databases at my university. Only good for articles, though. Not sure about books. |
