Hi,
I'm planning on heading to China, specifically Beijing at the end of the year. Ideally I'd like to stay there for a month or so, and I'm wondering as to how feasible it would be to get a really short-term/part-time teaching job in the Beijing area in exchange for a subsistence wage and maybe some accomodation (i.e. a floor to crash on).
I don't intend to earn any kind of big bucks - basically I'm a tourist on a longer than average time in China, and want to earn some spending money on the side.
Also, I'm CELTA qualified with some real teaching experience.
So could I just turn up at a language school and they'd take me on for a bit (maybe cash-in-hand, informally or something) or would there have to be more planning involved?
Any info/advice would be appreciated.

Basically, what you want, is for someone to conspire with you to break the law? |

This is word for word the post you put up in the Japan forum, substituting China for Japan.
Which one is it? They are entirely different countries. |

Yeah, I realise they're different countries, but I kinda want to see if it's possible in each one?
To answer my own question, I don't see why I couldn't rock up to a school or university, offer some support to existing teachers or maybe take some classes of my own in exchange for some small cash.
I'm just wondering if that is actually plausible in either China or Japan since they're the countries I'll be going through. |

You say that as if it's a bad thing!
But no, it doesn't necessarily have to be 'against the law'. |

Ok I'll cut to the chase for your.. if you don't mind.
The only jobs available will be the ones where they fired the teacher or he/she just walked out.
Why else would they be looking for a teacher in the middle of the semester? You don't think they start English classes "whenever" do you?
As for crashing on the floor.. if that's what you want then great... but you can always stay in a hostel for $5 a night if you don't mind having a warm bath, television, internet, and a restaurant above.
You should just come and start looking on thatsbeijing.com for some jobs. |
