As an older teacher seeking work in the region I am interested in knowing how employers and students in different countries feel about older EL teachers.

Specifically, how old is the oldest employed EL teacher you know, in the country you're working in (private classes excluded)?

I'm 63 and living in Mexico. Lately, I've found my own private students, but I have worked for and been offered work with language institutes to teach both on-site classes and off-site business classes.

I am in my 40s and have had no problems whatsoever finding jobs. I also work with several people in their 50s and 60s, and even one gentleman who just turned 70.

At the private university where I work in Costa Rica, there have been about four teachers from the U.S. in their fifties/sixties over the last three years.

65 is the oldest EFL teacher I know in Ecuador at the moment- but I know a guy who was somewhat over 70 who retired last year. (I don't recommend teaching teens in your 70s. This guy seemed to love it, but it took it's toll...)

Best.

We have had, from the first, teachers in training on our CELTA courses, all of whom have had no difficulty finding work. The oldest was 71, and we have had several in their fifties and sixties. There are contexts where maturity is an asset.
