Hello!

So, I need a first-time (virgin?) Z-visa. I am:

(a) an American citizen;
(b) currently in Poland as a tourist (e.g. no residence permit, meaning I can't apply for a Z-visa in Poland--I checked); and
(c) not filthy rich.

From reading this forum, it seems that I can NOT just show up in Hong Kong and apply for a Z-visa there. True or false?

If HK is not an option, it seems I can either:
(1) use one of those (expensive) online visa services (z-visa.com and the like) where I mail everything to some company in the USA, OR
(2) magically find someone in the USA who will go to a consulate there and submit my visa application in person on my behalf.

Am I missing anything?

Many thanks.

you cant. The only way you can do it, is if you mail it to a visa agent in the USA. try http://pandavisa.com

I dont know if its is different for UK citizens, but my friend who is currently in Beijing, went to Korea for a Spring break, and applied there, before heading back to China.

First you must be in possession of a letter of invitation.

Without one you are ineligible for a Z visa.

Thanks--So your friend was already in China, then went to Korea to get the visa, and then back to China? If that's right, did s/he have a tourist visa or a Z-visa when s/he was in China the first time?

Also, when was this?

Right, thanks. I already have a job offer, invitation letter and the whole shebang. I now need to get the Z-visa.

Yes, friend was already in China. He had been on F visa since October 2006.

He was given an offer letter from his new employer in Beijing, and went on a Spring Festival trip to Seoul, Korea.....he applied for Z there, and returned to China with it.

This happened in the last two weeks. He is now in China with a Z visa. I dont know if this has been swapped into his RP yet.

Hey, thanks for the info. It seems it is actually possible to get the Z-visa in Seoul. I checked out the costs, though, and it's not that much more money to just mail everything to a US-based visa service.

I taught for over a year in Korea, and I wasn't really keen on going back anyhow...!

Thanks again.

The local PSB here is demanding immigration passport entry stamps showing legitimate entry into China during the Visa processing after entry.

YMMV.

Good luck,

I think I know what you mean--you must show legit entry stamps, on the Z-visa, when they are processing you for the residence permit, etc. after you get there? As in, no going to China, leaving to Seoul to get your Z-visa, and then going back to China?

I might be off a bit. Very Happy

However, if for some reason (hypothetically) I decide to go to Korea *first,* before entering China at all, getting my Z-visa, and then entering China, there should be no problem. Assuming one can get a Z-visa in Seoul. Right?

I can absolutely confirm that this is also true now for Jiangsu Province and greater Shanghai.

I had to produce a passport that was more than 12 years old to show my original "chop" of entry into the PRC many years ago...on two different occasions...and never had to do so before.
