Hi, Im a 30 yr old single guy coming to teach in poland in october. I realize that teaching is a priority. That being said, what is the social scene like for a single fella, fairly goodlooking not necessarily looking for a wife just a steady girlfriend to ease the transition. Should I go into bars, talk to women on the street or any other advice. I dont want to look silly and do anything to offend the natives, but Im by no means shy. So any comments or suggestions are appreciated. Thanks, Shawn

Take plenty of condoms,you'll need them.Polish girls like foreign men,it's that simple.Every man I know in Poland,(even the arse ugly ones),has a goodlooking girlfriend/wife. Have fun but don't marry one of them.They like material things........a lot.......they're also just a little neurotic and don't behave that rationally when problem solving.On the upside though,they're generally beautiful,educated and feminine unlike the PC,man hating,fat lezza brigade you might have met in the US or UK.

Poland for the single man is, as has been stated, a pretty good time. I ran a school there a few years back and was already spoken for by what is now my wife. So, I behaved myself, but it wasn't always easy! All the single men, some of whom weren't exactly noted for their looks, charm or personal hygiene, found Polish girlfriends. In the case of one, whom I shan't mention by name, we were stunned at how someone so charmless and with a propensity for breaking wind in the (small) staffroom could have found a girlfriend as lovely as he did. Opposites attract, I suppose. For the most part Polish women were well-educated, well dressed and very pleasant and quite often stunning. The only drawback for me was their capacity for too much make up but that was the result of living often in very polluted cities, which do ruin the skin. Good luck with Poland. It's a nice country with great people.

There are some great sites like: polgay.com (however it doesn't seem to work these days) and plenty of clubs & pubs... and Polish men they are... MMMMMMMMM

If you are going to Poland best of luck. It may be nice to socialize, but as the others have said, beware. Also, there was a couple of references to the visa situation. One message was by a Chris Kliks tilted 'The dreaded residency permit requirements' posted July 2002. Another message was posted by Harry titled 'More visa info (16,10,01)' posted October 2001.
You may or may not already know about this. But that visa information does give some important clues as to what a person may need to prepare for working in Poland. As for schools, no doubt there are a slew of them. But a couple I do know of, of which the first one is called 'SPEED Callan School'. Another one has a website at www.goldengat.edu.pl.
Good Luck. I do not know if the visa information will be of any use to you or any one else. But it is worth looking into just to make sure.
