Disco biscuits Is this a BrE/Am/E difference or a generation-gap thing? I have no idea what you're talking about! |
Probably better not to understand this one... |

What Google offers:
The Disco Biscuits are a trance fusion jam band from Philadelphia. The band comprises Jon Gutwillig (guitar), Marc Brownstein (bass), Allen Aucoin (drums), Aron Magner (keyboards). Former drummer Sam Altman left in 2005. Magner replaced original keyboardist Ben Hayflick in 1995.
They differ from many jam bands in that they infuse electronic elements into their music. This style is referred to generally as trance fusion or livetronica. |

Thanks for the info, John. The problem now is that I have no idea what "trance fusion" music is, though I do know where Philadelphia is, since it's the city where I was born, far too many years ago! This thread is starting to make me feel totally out of it. |

Dear MO39,
"The problem now is that I have no idea what "trance fusion" music is . . ."
Neither do I - but it's a pretty good pun.

| Disco biscuits = British slang for the drug ecstasy - or 'E' as it's often referred to, hence the confusion... |

Thanks for the explanation. In this case, "biscuit" must be like the American "cookie", and "disco" is "disco". Not being one who frequents discos or raves, nor one who ingests drugs of the non-medicinal kind, it's no wonder I didn't understand Laurence's post! |

HaHa...I cant believe the "Disco Biscuits" are getting a shout on Daves; now I've seen everything. They're 'hometown heroes' (my hometown of philthadelphia) for the urban hippy-gone-bad clique on the east coast USA. Picture your average phish or grateful dead parking lot on crack. Anyway, I used to go to some of those shows before the scene got too stupid and too young for me. Some of my friends still like it, and Im always "too busy" when the band comes to town. I used to enjoy the music a little bit, but it is overrated IMO, and Im sure know one knows what Im yammering about... In reality, Im trying to build up to my 1 millionth post so that I can PM when needed;)
But the name Disco Biscuits is also slang for ecstasy, the much preferred party favor for that bands aficionados... |

You use the 'e' after the 'g' to keep it soft.
Before '-ing' the 'e' is not needed because medial 'g' is pronounced soft before an 'i' (as it is before an 'e'). That is why we double it to keep it hard in 'bagging' or 'tagging'. |

Has anybody mentioned WhiskEy?
Being Irish I like to keep the 'e' in it |
