Hi!
New kind on the block! You can call me Genes!
I've been in contact with various schools in Russia/Siberia/Kyrgyzstan etc. over the last two months looking for a position as an ESL Teacher.
I would like to be in any Russian speaking country as soon as possible! However most responses have been to apply for the start of the new academic year in September, but it's too late for me! I have to be back in Australia by February 2010 for my sister's wedding!
One option could be to apply for summer camp positions mid year and then continue working for the same company until the end of the year...
Does anyone have any advice?
Are there any ESL websites that advertise jobs specifically for Russian language schools?! I've only searched Dave's site, tefl.com, eslemployment etc. but I haven't found sites that only advertise Russian jobs.
Thanks for your help, I'm very interested in any suggestions!

Forget about summer camp positions. Schools give them to their salaried teachers who otherwise would have nothing to do at that time. Summer is the worst time to look for work in Russia.
There are no special websites in Russia for recruiting expat teachers. However you might want to look at expat.ru and redtape.ru which do have job postings from time to time.
Frankly I think it is very very unlikely you will find any school that is going to hire someone from outside the country (i.e. visa support) at the present time. There are plenty of teachers here right now looking for extra work who can be hired on the spot.
I think your best course of action is to apply for a September job and quit early if you don't want to work the whole year. |

Thanks for your advice!
I have thought this might be my only option -applying for a position in Sept. and coming home early.
I'll check out the sites you mentioned, just incase!
Thanks again! |

I suggest you have at least a few hundred coming in as side money. Ypu probably don't want to live in Russia on what is considered to be an adequate and customary teachers wage. |

And unless you have been the Russians shoes,as Rusmeister would say, you probably couldn't survive on it either! |

If you do want to go, don't wait for the adverts. One possibility is to approach the McFirms. The other is a more painstaking process, but... go to visarus.co.uk and look at the directory of schools. Then find the area you are most interested in and go to the schools' web sites to get up to date information such as phone numbers. Some will actually say they want teachers (advertising is expensive). In any case, then you send an email and/or phone the ones you like the look of. That's how I recently found a job, starting in the coming month. |
