The foreign teachers -- Korean, Japanese, American, British, etc. haven't been paid for over a month. I even phoned my embassy (who spoke w/ the FAO, and was convinced everything would be rosey by Fri.)

Now I hear it's all teachers. The role of victim is not one I want anything to do with. I don't know if this signals time to get out or change schools or a week's riding it out. The uni owes Feb. plus now time into the new semester (today it started). I can't afford to let them owe me more. I thought I'd be safe if I taught at a govt. uni...Only private ones robbed teachers. A friend in Guangzhou also had a uni rip her off. (I'm in Changchun.)

Ideas? Advice? Thanks.

Get together with all teachers and collaborate on a stratagie. This is Chinese gang banging. They work as a group and you have learned to work as an indiviual. Have tea together and don't communicate via the internet. Make a plan but don't include your students in the plan.

Print your own Renminbi. It's nowadays very, very fashionable and common for people to print their own salaries and other dues.

Far safer and far swifter than waiting to get your loot from your laoban.

Just a side note...in Chanchun, the Jilin Economic College, part of Jilin University has in the past had funding problems. They sometimes will not have enough money to finish the year and all teacher will wait til the end of the summer to get paid. Usually, this doesnt effect the FTs that work there cause they are papered at other schools and receive their money til ther isnt more and then they simply quit teching.....so r u paper'd at the school that hasnt paid you .. in other words were you hired by the school and did they complete a contract with you or was this a casual employment?

If this was an addtional job (moonlighting) with a college that is attached to Jilin Uni. you may have to just wait til the funding come through.

When was it due? I'd at least give it a few days.
