I actually use Beatles songs because:

A) I like them.
B) My students are adults and many of them love the Beatles.

I don't use Yesterday, but I would think the idea that the students have all heard it before would be positive, no?

In any case, Britney Spears, Madonna, anything goes. What's important is that the students are learning.

By the way, Doreen, you didn't sound rude and no offense taken. Also , according to the writer of Puff the Magic Dragon, it was just a kid's song. Don't know why he named the kid Jackie Paper, though.

I have found that in China (don't know about the rest of asia) "old music" ie beatles, carpenters, John Denver, is in like Flynn.

As my students sing the songs (shown to work more parts of the brain) the song needs to be easy to sing. The students should like it. While they think Brittany is cool, most of them prefer singing to the beatles and the Carpenters, etc. And the Beatles also make for good english.
While I like U2, (U@ is kind of old), their music isn't exactly easy to sing. About the most I can do is show the video, and try to explain it. But then they are not working their brains and mouths, I am

Dear All.

I don't know that many oldies. In fact the only beatles song one can instantly remember without to much brain power involved is 'Yesterday'. I have played Avril Lavigne. They love the song called 'Sk8r Boi'. And to tell the truth, so do I. It get's them going and it has a great meaning...just a thought.
