|
|
I have a bachelors degree in business administration. I have a teachers certificate in the state of California. I also have a community college teachers credential in California. I taught computers, accounting, business writing, etc for ten years in the U.S. I have spent ten years living in China and teaching English at a variety of levels. Would my teaching certificate and my experience get me around the requirement for a masters degree so that I can get a "good" job? My purpose (I think I stated this in my introduction) - first of all, I love teaching - but I want to have an experience living in a third culture to help me understand the nature of culture as I work on a masters degree in cross cultural studies. I would have no trouble accepting a 2 year contract.
What would I be qualified to do? BTW, I am a 48 year old single man. |

IMHO, you shouldn't have any problem in KSA, and you might even want to try someplace like HCT in the UAE as a "content" teacher for computers. It's a long shot, but worth a try. |

Thanks for the input. I will look into the international schools but I would prefer to work in a school with the local people to help fulfill my need to learn about the new culture. BTW, what is KSA? Is there a posting on this forum with all of the abbreviations used? |

Actually, MX, you should abbreviate it as KoH...as the're trying to re-brand as the "Kingdom of Humanity", but to directly answer the OP's query:
K=Kingdom (of)
S=Saudi
A=Arabia

That's something you don't want to do. You will pack your bags and be off on the next flight after a week. Of course, everybody is different, and who know, you might be an ex-military man made of steel, but chances are very high that you won't last.
Stick with international schools. And learn the culture in the evenings and on the weekends. |

With your teaching credentials and experience you're qualified for just about any ESL/EFL teaching job out there. Have you checked out the jobs in Taiwan? High salaries and great benefits for credentialed teachers. There are also more and more job postings in the Middle East for licensed teachers, like the latest from Teach Away. With your background you can write your own ticket so why even bother with schools that absolutely positively never hire teachers without a masters degree? |

your business/ESP teaching background can land you a 'good job' at IPA or IoB. |
