Hi all,
I appreciate all of the info shared regarding teaching in Latin America. I'm having a tough time deciding, though - Santiago or Buenos Aires? I'm planning to arrive (either place!) the second week of May, if that helps. I have a BA and a CELTA and about nine years of ESL teaching experience (mainly to adults, but some to kids as well) - in New York, Seoul, Austin, and even a bit in Barcelona. I'd been thinking seriously of Chile till I read the posts about the terrible Spanish spoken there, so I decided on BA but have since been convinced that Chileans speak Spanish just fine.
I don't mind just making enough to pay for a tiny studio apartment and other basics which seems to be how it is in BA.
Is it really impossible to stay in Santiago without an onward ticket? That seems like reason enough not to choose Chile if BA is so much more laid back...when I read that a girl really actually wasn't earning enough to survive in BA, I went back to the idea of Chile again - argh - I want to book a ticket!
Any advice is much appreciated and if I land in the city where you reside, it would be great to enjoy a glass of wine together in May.
Thanks! |

I too, am considering moving south and want to see the opinions to the same questions. I did come across this thread http://www.allchile.net/chileforum/topic2480.html on a Chile site, so it would naturally have a pro-Chile bias. Also it concerned buying property, not teaching English or living in the respective capitols. |
