Hi,
I'm a new TEFL teacher with a CELTA qualification. I'm trying to sort out a first job. I'm going to be in Bratislava in around two weeks time, where I have some friends. Does anyone have any advice for trying to find a teaching job there? I've sent my CV to a number of language schools, but I'd greatly appreciate any other tips!
Thanks.

Firstly, you'll need to visit the schools in person - it's very unlikely that you'll get much interest from any school until you get there.

Secondly, your timing isn't ideal - standard contracts are Sept/Oct thru June, with little to no work in July and August. You'll be lucky if you can pick up anything much before September now.

Good Luck

You could try www.profesia.sk

Teaching jobs come up fairly regularly on it.

CBI in Bratislava hires over the phone and they generally recruit 24/7 - of course, there's a reason why they actively recruit. Check their website at cbi.sk

Of course, you may also want to check out bhttp://teflblacklist.blogspot.com[/url]

You could check out www.bratislava-expats.sk. Or www.plusacademia.sk.

There is always demand in the private sector. Plus Academia is a private language school (address above) for adults in the centre of town. Or, if you have a CELTA you could try the British Council. Should be easy to find work!

What are your friends doing here? Maybe they could give you a few tips.

Wow!!! I wish I had know all about these resources on the web, before I left for Slovakia. In away they wouldn't have done me much good since Valens was a new company at the time.
Good luck with your job search. My only advice is that you get a visa and work permit, before you work in Slovakia (or anywhere in the world for that matter). That way you can be sure your rights are protected.
I've already posted my horror story about Valens in Slovakia, so I'll save the you trouble of hearing my story again.
Best wishes!!!
