Hi there, can you please advise me about EFL job prospects and pay in Thailand.

I have;

TESOL Cert,
TESOL Diploma,
HND Business Studies,
first degree (Open University UK),
masters degree (MA Education),
PGCE (post compulsory)

Im a director of studies of an EFL Dept. at a UK College of FE and Ive been teaching for 17 years.

Given my situation, what kind of jobs and salary might I expect Thanks very much for your help.

Hi knautica,

With these credentials you could earn anywhere from 60,000-100,000 baht a month teaching at a top-tier international school...maybe even a bit more.

If you move up the chain of command to an admin job, I have no idea what the salaries in Bangkok top out at. But I recently read about a school director making 150,000 baht a month in Bangkok.

Though some might say otherwise, you can live very comfortably here on 60,000 baht / month.

Definately top-tier International with those qualifications.

If anything, Mr Stretches` estimates are on the low side. Look at schools such as Bromsgrove, Patana, NIST and others.

If hired from overseas (I was from the UK) and depending on your years of experience you can expect 120k+ lots of benefits.

I have a BA (Hons) in Primary Ed, PGCE and 9 years. Salary is 128k plus free housing, utilities, gym, BUPA Gold etc etc. I know a teacher here with an MA and 19 years who makes 170k. Expect to make more if you have additional responsibilities such as HOD, Curriculum Coordinator etc.

If the school also has boarding, and you live on-campus then you and family can expect to eat free at breakfast, lunch and dinner. The food choice is staggering, as you would expect at these schools. Most of our wages go into the bank. (The wife got bored so the school gave her a Librarian job for another 40k)

International teaching experience is also a big plus. You are less likely to quit after 6 months because of "home-sickness!.

These schools generally hire at job-fairs and in the UK, Australia etc. They are hiring now. Look at websites such as TES.

Good luck in whatever you choose.
