Sorry to bother people for my personal gains of self-enlightenment.
My question is "Is it possible for a Chinese National to teach English?"

To make a long story short and trust me it is a long story since I am 26 years old. I am fully qualify to teach English as a second language, I have a MA in it and have been teaching for a year in Hawaii. All my schooling was in English and in an American Private Education setting. I am also a native speaker of English that watches Family Guy and South Park. I am not going to explain why having the ability to watch and enjoy Family Guy or South Park is a qualifying point to teach English if your a teacher you should know. You can email in private if you do not.

I have been applying for teaching English Jobs in Japan for a little more than a year. I am finally in Japan on a tourist visa that my girlfriend's family sponsor, I was hopping it would be easier. However, as soon as I mention I am Chinese, phone calls stop, emails stop getting responded too, I get letters saying I am unqualified or I been rejected because I do not have the right characteristics and online websites reject me for putting in Chinese or anything not from an English speaking country, whatever the hell that means, because Singapore is consider an English speaking country. Even after one company said send us your stuff and we will make you a COE, that company never asked my nationality before I sent my passport copy, rejected me once they got a look at my passport and sent me a rejection letter and cut off all communication.

Back to my first question? Is it possible to break through the stereo-type of an Chinese man? I am just one man, one big Chinese man, bigger than most I would say, and in Japan I would be counted as two man on elevators, but I am getting tired of fighting and rejections back at me. I just want to be with my girlfriend and make her happy.

Any help suggestion would be most helpful and welcomed. Hooking me up with a job would be even better, I am just joking... kinda...

Thank you for spending your time reading my question.

Since you have a master's degree, have you tried http://jrecin.jst.go.jp/seek/SeekTop?ln=1 ? Many require publications, but not all. College-teaching experience is required for a lot of them, too (you don't say where yours is).

(Make sure you're carefully proofreading all your communication with potential employers, though; your post here has several grammar problems and typos. I'm not saying that because you identified yourself as Chinese. I'd say that to anyone who posted with typos and was having problems getting hired despite excellent qualifications and experience. Wink Self-editing is a different skill from teaching well or speaking well, after all.)

Good luck!

Well, My grammar and typos will always appear regardless, I hope my post is understandable. Sorry, if I did not edit the crap out of it like I did on my Papers and alerted English teachers that can spot grammar errors like a Hawk like an injured bunny from miles away.

I thank you for your link.

Which is it? You can't be both unless you have dual citizenship from China and an English-speaking country. Since you are here on a sponsored tourist visa, you must be Chinese, but I would ask for a bit further explanation, especially after that remark about Singapore. Immigration certainly will! Ande, perhaps this is another reason you are being turned down.

Why? If you are serious about teaching English and have a master's to boot, you shouldn't really make such remarks.

So, what is it that you want from the crowd here? If you are qualified for the visa, that's one thing. But I'm not sure you are.
If you are Chinese, that's another thing entirely, and you must face facts about the discrimination you will face.
If you are Chinese-American, drop the Chinese from your label.

I want to address your questions, but I am wondering why your so upset??

It sounds like your upset about my question?

Singapore is an English speaking country, however, Japanese companies do not consider it as one. I am stating the fact that some Japanese companies that hires teachers do not put Singapore as their list of English Speaking countries they hire from. Singapore have cool people thats all I have to say and their a English speaking country.

Secondly, why I cant be a native English speaker without a passport from an English speaking country? Do you know all the international laws in the world regarding Native ENGLISH SPEAKERS. LOL I am just making fun of you, dont worry about it. Native speakers have nothing to do with nationality. I really dont want to give you examples, because I believe you have very limited amount of international friends to not understand that point.

Thirdly, just because I have my MA, dont make me less of an *beep* nor change my *beep* personality. However, if you believe I put that on paper and give it to the companies, your mistaken. I have a MA, that means I know how to play the game. I just want to be given the chance to play the game.

Fourth, You think I care what Japanese think about Chinese people? I just want people thoughts on the matter so I can gather information on next path to take. Now go home and dont bother my posts with stupid comments.

Lastly, do you have a master degree?? How do you know Master Degree holders dont have grammar mistakes or dont make them, you really think I will check all my grammar error on a internet form?? My Ph.D professors make grammar mistakes and spelling errors. My god, it seems like you havn't seen teachers make mistakes before.

Go away, I make whatever comment I want, this is the internet and get a freaken advance degree or see the world.

Thogin,
I was not upset, but I'm sorry you thought so. For now, let's just say I'm at least perturbed that you didn't answer the most important question I asked:

What is/are your nationality? Chinese? Chinese-American? Dual nationality? Singaporean?

Sadly, I agree with you. Most probably don't consider it one.

The answer is so obvious that I find it hard to answer with a straight face or without making you think I'm upset again. Part of the answer from me depends on your answer to my big question above.

Did anyone suggest this? I certainly didn't. Seems like your "beep" personality is inherent.

Not necessarily, or else you wouldn't have come here asking for serious help. That is, if you really intended to do so.

This is my home. Ad hominem...?

Oh, and yes, I have a master's degree. The earlier remarks by wintersweet were written professionally and politely. You do them and wintersweet a disservice with the tone and wording of your reply.

Uh huh, so what, I am not here to be polite. So what??
I really, could care less about what you think, how I should act.

Most likey you think is speical you have a MA, well I dont, I couldnt careless about it. I only said it as background information.

You really think when I say go home?? I really mean go home?? It means leave this form topic alone if you understood English you would get that.

I said Thank you to sweetwinters. Because she was helpful, I am hopping is a she, unless your a manly winter that is sweet, in that case I am sorry sweetwinters.

Really, I just wanted some helpful comments on what to do and how I should do it. And you jack in the crac..k have to go messing with my topic.

Of course I enjoy this, I been on the internet and this reminds me of the good old days. Of course it dont matter there are no people here. So I ask you again, dont comment on my topics unless you answer my question. And not post stupid questions about my comments.

I SAY GOOD DAY TO YOU SIR, GOOD DAY

I'm going to disagree with Glenski that native English speakers have to be from an English-speaking country- I know a lot of Japanese nationals who hold no other citizenship but are native English speakers due to having spent large parts of their childhoods in English-speaking countries.

For Thogin, although I hesitate to answer your post because of your attitude, which is kind of odd, if you have been trying for a year you know better than any of us how hard it is for someone who is not from one of the "usual" English-speaking countries to find a job teaching English. As I'm sure you know, Singaporean English is not considered "standard English"- whether that is fair or not is another discussion. I also wasn't clear on one point- are you a Chinese national or a Singapore national? The difference would be quite important for recruiters.

I have Indian, Pakistani and Filipino friends and acquaintances with non-standard English accents who work in eikaiwas or as ALTs- they just kept trying until they got jobs. What else can you do, really?
