I'd agree with VS here (versus all the time I tend to disagree ). There is a deep-down feeling by reputable employers in this (read: Gulf) region that they are actually doing a favour to potential employees by offering them employment in the first place. To negotiate, altho bartering is in their DNA, is to be considered an ingrate. Accept the pay that they offer you if it is within the norm and appreciate the fact that it's tax-free, housing is provided, health is free (or highly-subsidized), you are in a centralized part of the world where most destinations ('cept Antartica, John! ) can be easily reached, education is most likely free in private schools fer yer rug-rats, and yas got round-trip tickets home for oodles and oodles of vacation time.
Bottom-line: Don't look a gift horse in the mouth...
Now, excuse me whilst I go to work on (or is it "at") my weekend to finish up some company-man business...

Hatcher.
as per my informants it is possible to go up one pay slot if you negotiate with HCT.
But as has been pointed out by VS, generally they won't budge much and not on many issues.
But hey, what is the worst thing they can do if you try to negotiate for higher/better stuff in your contract? So try it and see what you can get, but don't expect much |

| The worst thing they can do is withdraw the offer. |

My advice is - if they're offering below 15,000 dirhams a month, negotiate until you get the right side of 15k. Less than 15k is a joke for the expensive Emirates' cities, which is almost all of them now. If they say no, don't worry too much.
Most of all, you should be able to get a better starting salary than that at many other colleges and unis in the UAE, so try them if you have no luck with HCT. It's no longer the place it used to be, and places like ADWC are best avoided entirely. |

What's wrong at ADWC? Well the Director is basically a doormat, and he never challenges a single decision made by those above him, or by the (Arab) senior managers in the college itelf.
Also, there are two very nasty senior managers working there now. A lot of the staff are waiting to see how the new Director shapes up - another doormat, or one who will stand up for his staff?
Although the current Director is not unpopular, it really looks like the prisoners are running the prison nowadays.
