Nah mate,I'm perfectly sane.I've tried unpasteurized Zywe multiple times and it was ok.It didn't knock my socks off at all. It's also rarer than snake's teeth where I'm living. |
Do you have a Bomi near you? Or a Piotr i Pawel? Both stock Zywe but get deliveries once a week and the stuff usually sells out in a few days.

I admit Zoladkowa is a good Polish vodka, but many of the other Polish vodkas tend to give me a nasty hangover if I over-indulge. |
I get very minimal hangovers on Wyborowa. Huge ones from Bols.

Finlandia is a bit pricey I'll give you that, but it doesn't give me a hangover at all.I always find it interesting how the majority of my Polish mates drink Finlandia almost exclusively.
My mate is a police officer and Finlandia is the vodka of choice amongst the police officers in his barracks and they certainly don't earn a lot of dosh. They drink plenty though.I guess they appreciate quality. |
They appreciate marketing. A friend of mine runs a vodka bar and there's a standing bet there. They pour out ten taster size shots (10ml) of vodka: five are Wyborowa and five are Finlandia/Absolute/other 'better' imported vodka, then those are put into pairs. If you guess each pair correctly (i.e. which is which), all ten shots are free and so is your next drink. |

There's a Piotr and Pawel about 25kms from me and a Bomi about 15kms away.
Bols is nasty and should be avoided.Absolut is not worth the money.Wyborowy is not bad.
I go for the flavoured Finlandias such as redberry or cranberry fusion. You can't find flavoured Polish brands.
With the normal Finlandia,it's more about the lack of a hangover effect rather than superior taste.I wouldn't be able to tell the difference bewteen Wyborowy and Finlandia if I had a blind taste test.
To be honest,I really don't think that Finlandia is marketed all that heavily. You just see it sitting on the shelves. It speaks for itself.

We once did a blindfold beer tasting at a school 'Conversation Club' and the Hevelius got overwhelmingly the best ratings. So good we thought it was Czech. |

There are six flavoured versions of Wyborowa alone! Although I must admit that none of them are berry flavoured.

Having worked with the people who do the marketing for Finlandia, I can tell you that it is very heavily marketed. A vodka doesn't get to be the fastest growing brand worldwide or the number one imported vodka in Russia just by letting bottles sit on shelves! |
