Can I take furniture bought in Mexico back to the US? Wife and I are considering going to the US to pursue further education opportunities but we want to take our bed and couches and all such things with us.

Impossible? Crazy? Too expensive?

Where in the US? The costs would be hugely dependent on where you're going.

Tempe. We don't want to pay a company. I've got family in both countries with trucks that can haul everything, it's just customs I'm worried about.

Tempe.

I think my father has officially offered his moving services, dont know how that will work, but he said theyd drive down from cali to get me within a days drive and out of Mexico. Perhaps the suegros will also help and we wont need to rent anything.

MikeySaid,

I grew up in South Texas and know personally that you should have no problems bringing furniture into the country.
My parents have purchased several large items (artwork, furniture) in Mexico and had no problems bringing the items into Texas.

The worst thing I could foresee happening is that you get to the US border and they want to search your things. I would make sure you pack for easy access to drawers, cabinets or areas where contraband might be hid.
I am sure you will come through with no problems.

Good luck,
Johnson

ps: How is the teaching job market where you are?

there's plenty of jobs here but its getting more and more competitive and like just about anywhere else, if you want to make good money it's advisable to have a master's or be willing to teach 30-40 hours a week

Thanks,
I don't have a MA but I do have a Texas teacher certificate in English so hopefully that will help me get ahead of the competition.(with a TESOL cert)
Good luck on your trip back to the states.
