Neznam ucitely v Praze, ale vim nejaky docela nova kniha "Czech Step by Step.' It's at the bookstores on Vaclavske nam (both). I suggest you invest in the book and also try to get a teacher to help you through it.

Maybe things have changed since I lived in Prague, but unless you sign up for a real course (Karlov Uni has some great summer programs - consider if possible!) the Czech teachers tended in the past to focus very highly on learning grammar - after 1.5 years of regular lessons with a very nice teacher, I could barely speak at all.

My Czech is now CEF B2 - meaning highly functional. Not great - I'd need more study to get really fluent, but I can do everything from buying a flat to getting insurance on my own.

I recommend getting a decent book and then asking a private 'teacher' to help you with learning to use the grammar/vocab you learn from it.

One of the few people I know who is really fluent in Czech spent two years really memorizing 10 words daily...under the influence of a very strict babicka-teacher. Czechs don't realize he's British unless he tells them Shocked I can't even aspire to this level!!

Hi MajorMajor.

I can also recommend this book.
The current series comes with Student and Work book plus CD.
It's a little steeply priced but a great investment.

How I found my Czech teacher was by placing an ad in my local laundrette.
I also agree with Spiral that the Charles University Summer Czech program comes highly recommended if you have the focus to get your head down and study hard.

Hezky vikend!/Lovely weekend!
