90+90 for UK passports, work visa question

Is the 90+90 days entry with a UK passport is still "Visa Exempt Entry" which cannot be changed to any other type of visa?

Is it at all possible to secure employment and then apply for a proper work permit and visa?

Like the 30-day thing where people had to do a quick visa run, but this time there is no reason to do so as 3 months is ample time to secure employment and other finish other paperwork.
