Has everyone put in their tax return? Apparently it needs to be done by March 31st. It doesnt matter if you were registered (NPWP) in 2008 or 2009 you still need to file.

You will need the Lampiran 1 form from your workplace (they should have already filled it out for you) signed and stamped it and the 1770 S form. Both need to be signed by you.

Has anyone filled out these forms recently?????

Would like some advice or tips on filling it out.

Hi Tanya,

I've just managed to fill in mine correctly I think. Feel free to fire me any questions if you like. PM me if you want to add me to skype or msn.

Good luck

Is this form generally filled out by the company if they pay the taxes, or is it always filled out by the individual? I haven't heard anything about it at my school, and they pay all my taxes for me.

Ahhh you see this is the problem...

Where I work... they told us to sign a BLANK form and they'll fill it out for us. Of course we aint gonna sign no BLANK tax form.

We are all now worried that the office HASNT been paying our taxes...or paying someone off.

They came back with some excuse its going to cost us like 3 or 4 million each to get the info we need. What bulls**t!!!

Anyway... I've kinda been stressing all weekend on whats going to happen this week. I know if you put in the form late, that the fine is only 100,000.

So I guess we'll see how it goes at the office today!!!

Okay, so I've heard this sorta thing a few times here, companies asking teachers to sign a blank form, presumeably so they can underrepresent the income, so they pay much less tax.

Is there any good reason not to just go along with it? I mean, what is it to you if the school is playing dodgy with the Tax office? Can it actually come back and bite you in the behind?

You were right not to sign. They can do all sorts of shady things in your name. Continue to refuse until they present you with a completed form that is accurate. If they refuse, the teachers as a group should:

1) Threaten the school with legal action, including advising the tax office, dept of labor and etc. With a united front (but without action beforehand) you can intimidate the school into complying - or at least telling you they falsified tax documents!

2) Seek legal counsel. You can get free help from state universities, which usually have a stipulation in the teachers' contracts that they must do community service. Law teachers provide legal services (consultation and out-of-court representation aka advocacy). Look for LBH (Lembaga Bantuan Hukum) or something along those lines.

3) Get ready to flee the country. Wink

Sure. By signing the document, you imply (or state, depending on the clause at the end) that all of the information is true and correct. Therefore, even if you had no hand in falsifying tax documents, lying to the government and paying reduced amounts of taxes, you can still be held legally liable. This could include:
1) Fines
2) Imprisonment
3) Deportation

I hear you can buy anything you want in prison here. But, occasionally, the regular police raid and take away everything. The prison guards are never punished for their involvement in this racket, despite being the sellers/providers. It's a scam.

In order to fill in my tax form I needed two things:

NPWP number - when you are registered you get a card with this number

The school gave me a printed document, 1721 - A1, which shows my taxable income earnt in 2008 and how much tax has already been paid by the school.

If your school don't provide you with these two things I don't think you'll be able to fill the form in. You need to know exactly how much tax your employer has paid already.

Well.. .my contract finishes on June 30th, the last day of school term is June 5th.

I am planning to leave the country on July 19th...to move home for good.

I have another question... Im going to Singapore for the easter long weekend (april 10th) .. should I pay the fiskal anyway, even though I have a NPWP number, or just use my NPWP and leave, and hopefully when I come back 3 days later, I'll have no trouble.

Now, there is another debate that the late fee for the tax form, is 5 percent of your income. Then people are sticking with the 100,000 figure?

Can anyone confrim what is correct with the late fee.

The school are STILL saying, they cant give us the form already filled in. So its obvious that they are dodgy.

I agree, if we dont sign a form, they cant pin us with "giving false information"

I seriously feel sick in the stomach just thinking about it. My husband who is Indonesian, is telling me to stop stressing, and it will be the company who suffers not the teachers.

But bloody hell, its Indonesia and they'll try to pin anything on a bule!!!

Arrrggggghhhhh!!!

I was just thinking the other day that one of the advantages of living in Indo was the tax system or lack of it meaning we never really had to worry about it at all. But now it seems they have introduced a 'western' system but in typical indo style have decided to introduce it before they know what they're doing. I pity all of you over there who have to wear this ****. I imagine you could visit 2 or 3 tax offices and get a different answer from all of them or just a 'malu' blank stare.

tanya, all the best for the move home. Do you and your hubby have any plans yet? Work or business wise?

well, at this stage I plan to go back to my old job Smile

Hubby, needs to brush up on his english skills, so he'll be attending a few classes.

We have put in the spouse visa form, and hopefully that now comes as quickly as possible so I can get out of here!!!

Oh the tax side, I have noticed that if per chance you have to pay 21 percent tax on the total income for the year, I'd have to pay somewhere around 4 to 5 million... I'll bloody do it myself if I have to. I'll pay the office to do it for me. Its obvious now they havent been paying anytning at all.

Because they said... for the information you need to fill out said tax forms..you'll have to pay us roughly 4 million. Which in theory just answers my own question above Smile

I just dont want this **** coming back later on, when we want to return for a holiday, and I cant enter the country cuz they said...I havent paid my taxes or something like that!

However back at home, I'll be changing my surname (cuz I havent changed it after marriage yet) so that might help Smile hahahahaha

5million or so is a small price to pay, instead of them f**king up somebody's future... !!!!!!

My husband works for a TV station here in Jakarta, I could easily get them to do a report on the school. But then again... that might make matters worse for me...... so have to remain quiet for the moment Smile

Had a look at the tax website.

It seems if you are late putting in the form, there's a 2 percent penalty per month..... I can handle 2% !

Ok...

I rang the tax office this morning...

From what I understood (and I'm fluent in bahasa)

The late fee is still 100,000ribu.

If you havent paid any taxes in 2008, then its a 2% penalty per month you havent paid. So make that 24 percent.

The lady told me, if your office hasnt paid anything, you can come and do it yourself. I told her that there is no deductions anywhere on our pay slips but all along the school has told us they were paying the taxes.

My name, or school name wasnt asked for. She just asked, is this school in Jakarta.. Smile Yes ma'am Smile

I told her roughly what I earned each month, and she worked it out for me. She said I'll probably owe about 10.5million in taxes.

I asked her, what if I cant pay the 10million in the one hit (I can..but just asking anyway) she said you can pay in installments, but need to do a surat permohonan... I guess a special request letter type thingy Smile

soooo.. today is the last chance the school has to come clean. If not, myself and my husband are going to the tax office tomorrow and sorting it out.

If per chance.. the taxes are paid twice - the school does what its supposed to do.. apparently the money will be paid back. I wont hold my breath tho!!!

Why would you pay the FISKAL? After all, you're planning on paying the taxes the school was supposed to say. The teachers, as a group, need to put the heat on the school, as I said before.

Up to you, but if you do nothing, they will continue to screw every foreigner that works there...

You could always mention that your hubby is thinking of doing a segment on schools that fail to pay the taxes for their foreign employees...Wink

i think this is the situation BUT i might be wrong so feel free to correct me if you are some super tax law boffin

most people's employers haven't been paying taxes per se on your behalf.

but most companies didn't have to register individuals for tax, just had to tell total number of employees (no nationalities, salaries, etc). nominally, you are one of these employees.

i dunno when the regulations changed but you shouldn't have a year of back tax cos the tax office have no idea who the individuals were who were registered as being employees of your company

most employers now want people to sign blank forms and will do the rest from there. obviously they will want to pay as little tax as possible.

if you ask me it's in your best interests to go along with the flow and let them pay your taxes for you. someone is probably getting paid to look the other way, may as well take advantage of it. i don't really fancy a 21% salary cut myself....

Hi there all,

In the same situation - got the form, filled in with salary earnings for the year = less than 60 million according to my school. So, this is a lie, but all western teachers in my school the same.

Now told to fill in 'S' sheet, i.e. less than 60 mil, and post before 31st.

Not heard anything about back taxes. I was at a different school last year, so will that make a difference?

Please share all dealings with this situation so we can compare info.
Cheers
