EF is English First.
DOS is Director of Studies, the person who looks after the teachers and teaching program. They report to the Center Manager, who also looks after marketing etc.

| I interviewed with EF a couple of years ago about getting a DOS position with them in China. As I recall, it was about US$1000 or 1200 in renminbi--but that was the exchange rate back then. No idea what it is now. |

10-12k pcm I think. Plus unshared house and flights and perhaps two weeks' holiday. And not much leisure time in the meantime, especially at the weekends and during the summer and winter peak periods, when most of us are kicking back.
I remember hearing of one DOS who got 15k per month, but he was involved in Corporate Language Training contracts quite heavily too, which can be more lucrative than general English.
That was back in 2005 though..
Anyone working for EF now? |

yes, it sucks. and, it also hurts.
laurence, that salary is probably for shanghai's senior teacher and a dos. most of the chinese centers i believe have their dos still on 9000. well, unless he/she has been with them for longer ("kissing" his way up higher).

that's about as much as an EF franchisee asked from one of the EF teachers at the huizhou center, because the teacher wanted to quit immediately. well, as a dos i was supposed to ask for that money and so i reasoned with my employer. she (her dog) said, it was for the classes the teacher would not have carried out for the month...lost revenue 
that brings me to the topic of how much an EF teacher might make for an EF center in china. according to the sum of money my former employer asked, it looked like she made as much as that. well, in sales of her "foreing product".
so, let me do some amateur calculations to see how much an EF employer could make out of that. let's take a teachers monthly salary of 5,500 yuan plus accomodation which in that case is 500 yuan per month. of course i have not added the center's rental fees of 300 sqm offices/classrooms or utility bills and then i haven't considered any advertising involved, but would it come any closer to the amount of 50,000 yuan  ???
i can't help it but tell you how foolish i was picking up all the qutting teacher's classes for the whole month on top of my already existing classes. and, as a dos i was instructed to recruit another teacher quickly. my employer did not seem eager to ask the head office for help. it costs a center to get a teacher through the central recruiting channel.
talking about all these changes in the largest educational institution of burgers selling EF, i wonder. many centers that've started 5-8 years ago still have the same franchisees. what could've changed ??? ...their hearts

mikey, i don't mean to start a flame war either, but i find your post with the whole 9 yeards quote of mine unitelligible too. especially right after i posted it
mikey, the 50,000 monthly salary that someone on here would not work for in EF ironically (to me) refers to the gross monthly sales "per teacher" there (ef huizhou) as it looks. to make it clear for you again, the employer where i worked asked the teacher to pay that amount for quitting on a day notice justifying that 50000 as monthly rev per teacher. if you still do not see a connection there or need a further clarification, do not hesitate to pm me. i'll be more than happy to explain it further to you.
