Neil in an earlier post mentioned that one person posted seven thousand times on Dave's esl cafe! if you do the math and average every post at two and a half minutes that amounts to 24 days of time!
What could you do with 24 day of time? One could take an introductory course in guitar, or interior design!
What a complete waste of time. |

Methinks they get paid for doing it, i.e. they are regular employees of this forum and they do their regular job hours.
I think 7000+ posts - and there are number higher than this here - is even more than Sir Montagu Doughty's volumes.

So... why would you care? Actually I have many more than the number in my profile because at the beginning the board was the old style and you could post anonymously without registering... that was back in 1996. Before they had to remove the memberlist, I was only number 10 or so in the count.
Please do write to Dave and tell him that apparently my checks have been lost in the mail. That is one of the silliest ideas that I have heard yet. Not only does he NOT pay the posters, he doesn't pay the Moderators either.
I'd say that it is more a reflection of the fact that teaching in the Middle East is not exactly onerous, and one has hours of free time sitting about in offices and cubicles. The weather is horrifically hot for much of the year, and if you are not a lush and are bored by TV, IMHO helping people on discussion boards is one option. Since I am retired and caring for an elderly parent for the foreseeable future - and zero interest in guitars or interior design - I choose to spend time here.
And don't you have something more important that you could be doing rather than wondering about what strangers that you have never met are doing with their free time? I really do think that this is a MYOFB moment for you both.

VS - you're so popular you have your own trolls and sock puppets who follow you around
Goodness, who needs to get a life?
I must admit I'm posting out of jealousy. I've been "part" of a thread but never the initial topic - damn you VS for being the trendsetter that you are! |
