Hey;
Been in Turkey about 4 years now and looking to move to a new school. Currently working at a high school. Wondering how difficult it is to change an ikamet address? Any experience out there? |

| Dude this is Turkey. Don't worry about it. I still have my first address on mine from years ago and I have never had any problems. I have bank accounts, credit cards and utilities in my name. |

From what I remember, you will need to go to your old Muhtarlik to get a letter to take to your new Muhtarlik, from whom you will get a letter to give to the Emniyet Mudurlugu ... the muhtarlik work is painless .. quite unlike the Emniyet Mudurlugu work ..
I would suggest that you do all this when your current residence permit needs renewing to save you making an extra trip to the Emniyet Mudurlugu .. |

If your ikamet is issued on the grounds of work at a particular school, when you leave said school the ikamet becomes null and void.
If you are merely changing address, as said before, you need to go to the muhtar of both the old and new address to get the ikamet updated.
I've done the latter - an interesting experience involving the help of the local police (at my request) in locating the correct muhtar's office. They took me to three different offices in their car before finding the correct one to sign off from. I knew where the new muhtar's office was but they insisted on taking me there too. They were very polite and kind.
I was slightly concerned by the dented and blood splattered baseball bat next to the driver's seat though! |
