I love both cities but based on what I am hearing on this board Izmir seems to be a more practical destination to teach in now...is this the case? I like that there is a lot to do in Istanbul and a have enough to to live on for 3 months or so. But Izmir is pretty and cheaper and more managable...is that the case? I am coming from NYC so "expensive" is relative. thanks Wink

Well Istanbul can't be bothered to reply, so I can give you the Izmirian perspective. Yes it is cheaper and more pretty and warmer and so are the people and the food esp the fish is better and if you like the sea then there really is no other place to be. Sadly the night life is not the same as the other place but then not many places can beat Istanbul for that. But Izmir is an easier place to live in. Hope this helps1

I also chose Izmir to live and work in but disagree with O.O. about the fish - in Istanbul you get lufer, sadly not on the menu in Izmir!

Hi F.G.T

I think that Lufer is available here, but the locals prefer the usual stuff. I have eaten extensively in Istanbul, to my mind the way it is cooked down South is more suited to my taste.
