|
|
Hi,
Just looking for some general advice here. I worked in KSA 2 years ago.
I did a runner from the job after 4 months. I have some KSA interviews coimng up with British interviewers, do I tell them the truth or just not mention it? I haven't put it in my CV or application, so they don't know about it so far. Also, I'm in the process of applying for a new British passport, so I will get a new one soon, without the old KSA visa in it.
This is a question especially for the old hands, or people who have some experience with BAE systems, they are one of the companies I hope to interview with. Thanks in advance for any input. |

Are you are feeling a tad guilty for your past transgressions?
No good can come out of telling future employers that you did a runner.
My advice is not to mention it. Put it behind you - forget about it.
For cripesake don't put it on your CV!!! |

Not guilty so much, I just don't like lying in formal situations like a job interview, espeically with Brits: I don't mind telling people from the Arab world what they want to hear, because 'truth' is an elastic concept there.
I just don't like bullsh*tting peers, for one I'm not so good at it, for two, I don't like it when an interviewer is less than honest with me about the job. |

Well, if the truth is an 'elastic' concept in the Arab world, then I think it is an 'elasto-plastic' concept in UK and America! |

I was pushed into one "runner" (sort of) - I declined renewal of the contract by 4+ page fax during my summer leave - along with 30% of the faculty. I did finish all required work under the previous contract.
In my case, I did tell my next employer during the phone interview because I wasn't sure whether the active work visa from another GCC country in my passport would cause them problems. The two people interviewing me were Omani, and the Dean pretty much said 'no problem.' But, in this case, there were people at this institution who knew me already and had recommended that they call me since they knew that I was leaving my current employment.
I'd say that it depends on many factors whether you tell the next employer.

Especially when dealing with people who decide whether or not to lie depending on the nationality of the person they are lying to.
Anyway, in response to your question, I would advise you not to let your potential new employer know that you ' did a runner', whether or not he or she is a 'Brit". Your reasons for having done said runner may seem perfectly legitimate and reasonable to you: a potential employer might see it differently. |

All fair points made, there's definitely an element of the pot calling the kettle black on my part. |
