What is the best way to handle keeping a US mailing address while overseas? To maintain residency and to be able to receive mail? Those forwarding services seem expensive - but I quess they are necessary if you can't use a relatives address. |

I'm going to assume, then, that you can't use a relative's address. Friends, then? Just pick a trusted person who won't mind the hassle of getting tons of extra junk mail and is reliable enough to send you anything that might actually be important.

I'm moving to Guatemala in July. What I'm doing is giving my semi-expensive printer/scanner/fax machine to my mother-in-law, which she wants, and she's going to scan anything important and email to me. If she needs to mail anything, then I'll reimburse her, of course.
Perhaps a friend could do this? Pay them a few bucks a month to do it once a week, for example... |

BUt honestly, is there much that you still need? I mean there's lots of junk mail, people don't really write letters, and bank statements, and credit card stuff could be forawarded to a friend or family |

Have you thought about getting a PO Box? You'd probably still have to ask someone to check it periodically, but perhaps you can contact the US Postal service and explain your situation. See link below for more info.
