Are Dewey and Footprints the only way to get a public school job in Taiwan while still in the USA? They seem to be the only ones recruiting for these jobs. |

Don't know these schools, but do know this: you need a teaching certificate to teach at public schools. If they're not offering that at their recruiting stations, report them to the proper authorities. |

I think the OP is asking if these are the only two recruiters that are placing people in public school jobs. I have a similar posting asking how to get a position as a public school teacher. I have a teaching license and am qualified to teach in a school. However, it appears that the only ways to get one of these positions is to either go through a recruiter or apply directly to the school itself. For those of us out of the country the latter isn't practical.
It's too bad the M.O.E. doesn't have some sort of placement program like HK, Korea, and Japan.
As far as the recruiters, I suppose some are better than others, but who knows? Too bad there don't seem to be many K-12 certified teachers on the Dave's Taiwan forum... |

Thanks - yes I am a certified/licensed teacher.
Seems like from being in the USA - that dewey and FR - have control over the public school jobs.
I agree that Taiwan (and probably China) need programs like SMOE or Gepik or whatever.
Anyway my experience has been the bait and switch tactics with the recruiters - want to send me to the lowest paying hagwon - instead of a public school - despite their advertisements for PS jobs.
I keep reading that the PS school jobs are available - but recruiters really want to send teachers to hagwons for some reason - maybe because the recruiter earns more money from the hagwon? |

I think, rather, the OP was trying to find a public school position without credentials.
Why else ask for this? Would a certified teacher think to go through the back door? Would public schools in Taiwan go the direct route?
Don't kid me. Report them if they're not offering the right credentials. The preyed upon should realize this. |

I am a certified teacher currently teaching in Taiwan at an elementary school. I love it. I went through Dewey because I couldn't find the jobs any where else. My contract, however, is with the county. Dewey was very helpful -- processing visas, helping me settle in etc... I am in a small town, but I, surprisingly, love it. Being a certified public school teacher seems to put you in a different category, so I wouldn't worry about going with these recruiters. Tell them what you want and see what happens... |

And make sure that your work permit is to work in ex high school or elementary school and not at a buxiban down the road. Ask your coworkers or scan your work permit and I will tell you if your ARC is for the school you are working at. |

Wade - use spell check please.
Getting through the back door - no - just trying to avoid the bait and switch tactics of - the high paying public school job is no longer available - but I have a low paying cram school job - sleeping on a cot in the bosses living room job available for you.
Not to mention recruiters get the money.
And the visas are not from the recruiters - I know that. |
