Hey,
Is there anyone who has any information on dog shelters, or the situation about all the stray dogs in Santiago? I am trying to get some info- and hopefully do some volunteer work in this area, but there isn't alot of information out there. People don't seemed to be very concerned about the situation. Anyone have any insight or known organizations?

Thanks!

We tried to volunteer at an animal shelter in Santiago and it was an absolute nightmare, really a waste of our time. Maybe you'll have better luck.

Here is the web-site that we built for them but I have no doubt they never ever used.

You will definitely need to speak Spanish if you want to go down there and talk to them.

[quote="Beccaboo"]Hey,
Is there anyone who has any information on dog shelter...................

There are some people on Paseo Ahumada that are doing some type of Adopt a Pet campaign. They're there almost everyday. You might want to talk to them for starters. As for the dogs on the street, it's just part of everyday life here in Chile. Besides, what would you do with all those dogs anyways, keep them at a shelter for 30-90 days and euthanize them if nobody adopts them (as they do at the SPCA) ?? Good luck with that. What they really need in Santiago is a shelter for the mendigos(street people) with drug/alcohol councelling services, life skills courses and medical attention.

Who the hell do you think you are to make such a comment!!

This is a city that is crippled by pollution and has no welfare system for the sick, disabled or unemployed. How about those situations, Beccaboo??

Get off your high horse and help your fellow man.

You make me sick.

Sharkeyv,

Wow, each and every one of your comments is negative or a flame.
I would not want to be around you and your negative energy.

On a more positive note.
I am behind you all the way Beccaboo; good luck in your quest.
I am a dog lover and would not want to see any animals suffer.

Only a pervert would take my words as some sick sex act.

I suggest you stay in Chile and keep your perverted sickness to yourself.

I feel like I should help Beccaboo get the stray dogs off the streets now that I know a pervert like you is on the prowl.

Help the dogs of Santiago!!!
Sharkeyv is into dog loving and no Chilean dog butt is safe.

These street dogs aren't suffering but if you're all hell bent on saving them, go for it. They(the dogs) live in natural harmony with the city. I jog in centro most every night and sometimes have a parade of these woofies following me. I've seen the odd dog that could use veterinary attention but I've seen more people needing medical attention than dogs. As the old adage says, " Let sleeping dogs lie". In Chilean society, there is barely enough tax money to take care of the human population let alone the stray animals.
