I'm about 330 pounds at 6'3". Do schools really discriminate against hiring fat teachers or are they okay with it. I've heard different things, just wanted to check before I fly over there. Thanks.

I would say that there probably is, and that it would similar to the way that there is discrimination against non-white English teachers. I think if it came down to two teachers who were equally qualified some schools would probably choose the more attractive (or white) candidate. Remember that a lot of schools sell your appearance to prospective parents.

For example, my buddy's wife, who happens to be a rather attractive blonde, got hired at a new school, and the Laoban kicked another female teacher with a lot more experience out of the 1st floor classroom (with the large window facing the street!) in favor of her so she could be "on display" for prospective parents/students.

All that being said, I have seen some teachers who are quite large, but it is the minority for sure. At least IMHO.

Well, I'm a guy, so a hot chick would trump me, every time. Girls like big dudes, anyway. I just heard Taiwanese had some weird bias about fat dudes. Thanks for the info.

There's another kind of discrimination to appreciate: spatial and furniture.

Many classrooms in Taiwan are not large. Chsairs can be crammed into them. So even for someone of a regular build is not easy to maneouvre around the clasroom. For someone of a larger physique this would mean it is nigh on impossible to move about and check on the kids.

Furthermore classroom furniture in Taiwan is often for the smaller sized person. How to navigate 150+ kilos on a chair fit for an oompah loompah would be interesting!
