unbelievable. people holding up lines for sometimes 7-8 minutes. ridiculous.

the juice story is nothing I wouldn't expect. I just went through a very similar situation, but it was something very expensive.

I spent half an hour in there last week trying to collect a registered letter. I had the advice slip but they had lost the acutual letter.

Things would be so much easier if they could just put letters into my letter box.

So professional aren't they. I once inquired about work at a language school, and in the reply the female DOS replaced every full stop with a smiley face!

Yeah, those people are paying bloody bills at the Zabka.

It's really annoying and I don't know why they allow it.The reason you pay more for items at places like Zabka, is because they are SUPPOSED to fast and convenient. That's why your Corona is 4.25ish there and 3zl something at the supermarket.

Nothing worse than seeing a gaggle of babushkas, with weak eyesight paying their monthly bills at the local zabka, while you are simply trying to buy a beer or a packet of mentos.

I've walked out of many Zabkas because of the long queues of bill payers.

God love em all! I also think highly of those babcias that wait until they actually approach the bus driver before slooooooooowly taking out their purses and counting out their coins in order to pay for their fare.No sense in preparing the coins beforehand!

Or the women that decide to rearrange the contents of their purses or carry on extensive conversations on their mobiles, while standing in front of the cash point machine.

Do people get part of their salary in food coupons in Poland?

That always pissed me off in supermarkets. One person in front of you with only a handful of items and you think you're going to be served quickly and at the last minute she pulls out a year's supply of food coupons, none of which she has thought to fill out in advance, and starts filling them in then and there...

Thankfully they've recently started being issued with the name, company and ID number already printed on them.

The Poles don't get any of their salary in food stamps.I don't think they'd be too keen on the idea, considering their socialist past and the whole food stamps/rationing thing.

During Christmas, some employers give those "bons" or coupon things as presents. They can be redeemed for their value at participating shops.Usually the bigger hypermarket places.

Bon season usually means massive queues at the bigger shops and long waits.

I showed your post to someone who said they would "look into" the matter as they thought you should have got some freebies (company policy). Keep us updated will you?

another one this morning:

i walked into my neighborhood "deli" to buy a pepsi before heading to work, set down my .5 Liter pepsi and the cashier says, "You don't want to buy that.....buy a 1 Liter bottle. The .5 Liter is too expensive."

perplexed by the fact that buying twice as much of something costs less, i thought for a second, quickly wrote it off as "I'm in Poland, just forget this is even happening," and I told her "no thank you". (I was headed to an office to teach, a 1 liter bottle of pepsi quite frankly is impractical.)

after I told her no thank you, she huffed and puffed, rolled her eyes and said as she was ringing me, up, "ooookkkkk....." and proceeded to grossly overcharge me for my pepsi (4.65).

yesterday it was 2.80. today, 4.65? and somehow a 1 liter is cheaper than a .5 liter?

ahhhhh.....Poland.

This is typical pricing tactics here in Poland - in Auchan, we buy one litre cartons of juice - per litre it's cheaper then 2 litres. A 250g packet of cereal, 2 of them are cheaper then 500g, one litre olive oil, cheaper than two litres per litre etc etc. It just means you have a whacking great set of shopping bags when you pass through the checkout.

I think he was saying a 1 litre bottle was cheaper than a 0.5 litre bottle (not per litre, but full stop)...
