What is currently a solid wage as a teacher in Prague? I may have an offer to make 25,000 CZK AFTER taxes. I am flexible on living in or a little outside of the city. I know saving money is not ideal there, but I just want to live ok. |

If it's net, you should be ok. Housing's the biggest expense - if you want to live on your own, it can easily cost 8.000++ per month, though you might find a slightly better deal. If you're willing to flat-share, that's obviously much better. |

Hi connick32.
Is 25,000,- after tax a decent salary?
It really depends on how many hours you are expected to teach and where you will be teaching. Also, as Spiral correctly noted, it also depends on how much you spend on housing. A good starter for shared accommodation options is: http://www.spolubydlici.cz
It also depends if you r going to be eating where the expats eat or where the locals eat.
We are located in the center where a beer can range from 8 CZK or so in the super market, to 25-30 CZK in Czech pubs, going up to 400 CZK at the likes of Old Town Square eateries and Krakovska Street joints. The same rules apply to eating and general socializing.
Hope it helps.
Have a lovely rest of the day!

Thanks for the helpful information. I am definitely going to try budget housing. I would live with a roommate, and I don't need anything spectacular. My school is an elementary school a little bit outside of the city. The offer is for 27 hours a week with an option to pick up extra jobs and duties for more money. I would be teaching 3rd or 4th grade. I may also look into working extra hours for more money. So maybe, I can make close to 30,000 with a little extra effort. I am flexible on where I live to save money. The school is taking close to two months deciding on the offer, so I am just preparing myself for an answer when they do. The school sounds great so far. Thanks for the help! |
