I heard that the Japanese government is giving out economic stimulus money. Is this just for Japanese citizens? If foreign taxpayers are eligible, how does one go about getting the money? Do we have to apply at the city hall? Thanks!

Foreigners who have registered their presence in Japan by Feb. 2009 are eligible.

Some of us have already received notice about the money. Ex. my family received their applications. We have the option of having the money direct deposited or give to us face to face.

Your city/ward office will send you paperwork at some point for you to fill in and send back. Exactly when varies by municipality and isn't announced far in advance. Some areas have already received their paperwork, others haven't yet.

I'm still waiting for mine. Several of my friends have received theirs, so not sure where it is. I've been living here four and a half years, have a up to date address on my gaijin card, work for the kencho, pay my taxes, etc. Not sure how more registered I need to be....

Crying or Very sad

Not got mine yet. Bit behind on my taxes though. Could that be a factor?

We got our forms earlier this week. The money could take several weeks to arrive though apparently.

12,000 yen for adults under 65, so nothing to get too excited about. You had to be resident in Japan on Feb 1 2009 to be eligible to receive it.

My stimulus paperwork just arrived, re-routed to my new apartment here from my old place in Saitama. (Thank goodness I got the kanji for my new address correct on my change-of-address form at the post office!) 12,000 yen, that's a nice night out on the town for me and the missus. Very Happy
