Carlen, it sounds like you have a very good insight into the current recruiting going on in Abu Dhabi. I am seriously considering this option. I currently work just outside of Vancouver, BC, Canada. I have a somewhat secure job but am looking for more. Wondering what your whole take on this is? I think I have a pretty good idea from reading your post.

I would love to speak to you privately about some of the issues I see and am wondering about.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!
Lorien

Now why in the world would studying math and science in English affect their mother tongue... except for those families who have turned child rearing over to non-Arabic speaking Asian maids.

Then there is the complication that when they start school, they are learning a whole new Arabic from the one spoken in their homes. (for those unaware of this, it would be as if we started school and were taught in Shakespearean English for the next 12 years.)

As long as they are going to teach math and science in English at university level, I see no "logical" argument not to start it that way from the beginning of their schooling. There are good reasons to develop a truly bi-lingual program from first grade... and not suddenly require bi-lingualism when they are 18... which is too late for most.
