I know that one must inevitably do this when applying for positions in China. However, I am wondering if anyone has ever had any experiences with unscrupulous employers misusing passport information ( passport number etc.) For what I don't know. Maybe I am just being paranoid.

Have seen people blur out certain parts of their passport when sending a scan by email.

For the most part it should be ok, I haven't personally had any problem with it, but identity theft is a rich business in some parts and doesn't hurt to be careful.

I think the only real problem you may find with it is that when you accept the position and begin teaching at the school, you may very well find a picture of yourself plastered on the wall somewhere =P

Just block out the passport number to be safe if you like.

I would blur the passport number with photo editing software in the first stages of application. You do not always know if you are dealing with an unscrupulous recruiter or the school.

When negotiations come to tacks, you'll be asked for a complete passport which includes your number. Initially, your passport scan merely informs the entity responsible for your employment that you are ready-to-go.
