Any thoughts about the university level teaching in Turkey, anyone?

What would the salary be in both private and public Turkish universities of an Academic English / TEFL lecturer with a UK Masters in ELT and two years UK university teaching experience?

Thanks.

I'm working at a private university in Istanbul. I have a master's in TESOL and several years' experience. My salary is the TL equivalent of $2,500 per month (gross) plus free housing and health insurance. I know of one or two other private universities whose pay is comparable. Public universities pay much less.

thank you for your reply.

how is Istanbul Aydin University rated?

i have just received an email from the director stating that they'd offer TYL 2500-3000 / month. nothing else told (yet?).

what does that sound like to you?

i have a two-year uk university teaching experience; another two at another uni elsewhere; 11 year ELT / Academic English teaching experience over all in three countries; trained teachers / conducted workshops at conferences in seven countries; have an MA ELT from the uk; and am married with three children.

does the turkish recruitment system discriminate against non-EU and non-native-English-speaking-country passport holders?

thanks.

I doubt the kind of money you should be getting is not going to be offered. You may get something like 3000-3500 TL but it will be hard to find a place that also throws in things like accomodation, regular flight tickets home for you and dependants, plus daily meals and health insurance. Your best chance is to go for the big places like Ko or Sabanci universities, where your experience and qualies may very well get you in.
