Are trousers acceptable work wear for women in the UAE, or does it have to be a skirt? Thanks!

Trousers are one of THE most acceptable along with long skirts. Loose cover is the priority and jeans are NEVER allowed.

Trousers are one of the best options for many.

But you need to also be aware to have long hanging jackets, or tops which cover the top of your rear end.

I found that for the majority of the year it was just too hot for trousers, and by my second year in the Gulf, they disappeared completely from my work wardrobe. (and this is a from a woman who didn't own a dress or skirt before she went overseas)

As adorabilly said, trousers should be worn with long tunic-style tops... (jackets can be a bit warm)

Thanks everyone!

One more! How long is long for skirts? To the floor or below the knee?

Mine varied from mid-calf to the floor. Sleeve lengths to the elbow at least.

ludhilltoysolider.

The best rule of thumb is skirts below the knee, and sleeves below the elbow.

keep the tops loose and have them be extra long to cover the top of your bottom.

and avoid low scooped tops.

That seems to be the general rule of thumb for female dress (what my wife has to wear for work)

You can get away with just wearing pants ( or are you superman and wear them over your trousers?)

He's likely American... we don't use the word trousers much and pretty much only for men. We usually call them pants or slacks. For what you are referring to, we use underpants or underwear.

The joys of English... Laughing

arabianknight... it explains why the local dress for men is what it is...

I like the idea of 'the top of your bottom' Smile Where, precisely, would that be??

Personally, I wear my long tops to the bottom of my bottom.

If your ankles are not completely covered, do you have to wear socks? So hot...
