I'm coming to Saudi soon and I have been looking at airtickets etc; I was wondering what the best way is to travel from Jeddah to Jubail. |

Fly to Dammam, take a taxi to Jubail. (Taxi is about SR90-150) One person I know took a bus from Jeddah to Jubail (via Riyadh and Dammam) due to trouble with connecting flights, and said it was an interesting experience, but very long. |

Dammam Airport is in fact between Dammam and Jubail.
As the poster says fly to Dammam and get a taxi from the airport.
Only a masochist and member of the 500 Club would consider taking the bus. I would not even send my favourite feline on that journey. |

Mr scot47 your favourite feline wouldn't be VS by any chance?
Haven't 500ers heard of hitch hiking or is that verboten in the KoH?
Are there any 500ers who would like to come on this forum and defend their position from what seems to be almost universal approbation, after all most laptops and internet links are provided free. There is probably a sound argument for belonging to such a club. And many would like to know why. What is the demographic spread of the membership? Do they correspond the with usual geographical/cultural stereotypes? Is it purely a phenomenon within the KSA and when ex patria is dissipated with a flurry of benevolence?
There's a Phd in there somewhere if I could only get someone to give me a hand to do it.
As a Yorkshire man I would be interested to know.

Don't forget to save that excess rice you boiled and make a salad of it the next day's lunch. Any liquid from rice also makes a nutritious drink, making up for the mineral deficiency of those cheap wilted veg. you got on offer at the market.
Why start a new thread when you can share someone else's? The noble, humble, virtuous, lucrative 500 club is alive and kicking. Inshallah.
By the way, I can do you a nice PhD for 5000SR on credit. Latin motto and
heraldic beasts included on certificate. |

Lions Rampant I hope. Nils Desperandum.
What would be a 500ers Latin Motto I wonder?
That's pretty cheap for a Phd, expect your inbox to be overflowing

Dear Kipling,
"What would be a 500ers Latin Motto I wonder?"
May I suggest:
"Adde parvum parvo magnus acervus erit" Ovid
Add a little to a little and there will be a great heap

John |

Mr JS you are font of Wisdom. I used to be Avid about Ovid but that was all a long time ago and I have more that paid my debt to society which is probably more than a 500er would do
Might I suggest an old Yorkshire proberb for the Club
Hear all, see all, say nowt, tak' all, keep all, gie nowt, and if tha ever does owt for nowt .......do it for thysen
May all your cakes be cherry topped |

Dear roy_101,
A 500er is a member of the legendary (and possibly mythical) "500 Club", a group of thrifty, frugal or hallalah-pinching (depending on your opinion) ex-pats who have taken a solemn vow to live/exist in the Kingdom spending no more than 500 Saudi riyals a month (roughly $133.)

Well, I suppose such frugality is commensurate with the objective of
working in the KSA.
I think I would apply for membership. |

Dear roy_101,
Considering the shared interest of the club's members, I doubt any of them would be willing to pay a fee to join.
But finding someone who'll admit to being a member might prove difficult.

Kinda funny here, as I was alwasy led to beleive that it was a 500 pound fine levied on someone who decked a Saudi upon landing in the U.K. I guess it's the same kinda "urban myth" as the BA stewardess who was made redundant by announcing that they had arrived in Dhahran and the passengers could reset their watches 500 years back! |
