I sure hope that this all trickles down to lowering rents at 'teacher' level. I suspect that in many cases, these deals are still going to be hard to find - especially for newbies to the system who don't know the city and neighborhoods.

The rental agreement on my accommodation was recently renewed. The rent stayed the same but the landlord wanted an extra Dhs 5000 service charge. Fortunately my employer agreed to pay this.
I do know of someone who has had his rent reduced from Dhs 400,000 to Dhs 200,000 because he was made redundant. He isn't in education.

Rents in Abu Dhabi are finally starting to drop!! It's starting in the outskirts w/ neighbourhoods like Khalifa A, Between 2 Bridges, and Raha Beach. Ads now say, "Make me an offer" rather than listing a price. Loads of buildings that started to go up 6 months ago are coming up for rent soon. Can you believe agents are actually leaving flyers on our doors advertising their vacancies? Villas that were renting for 450,000 in August are now going as low as 250,000. I won't bother renewing this lease...I'll be looking for something bigger and cheaper come next autumn. Smile

Yes, Integrity! It's true! The tables have definitely turned - and I rub my hands together with glee each week as I watch the area I live in empty out. Not for those hurt by the downturn of course, but because of knowing the stupidly rental costs are slowly going to become more like reality.
