I don't know much about this area as i'm only doing research about japan now but came across your post.

Try http://www.couchsurfing.com Don't know what its like but most cities have meet ups or you can find people to get coffee with locals and non locals or find people for language exchanges.

You might also want to check out http://www.cirhomepage.org/

Check out a guy with the handle, grissnap. I believe he is a CIR at the Prefectural Office in Morioka.

Very nice guy! Very Happy

I know you are far from Sendai. But if you are in the area on May 16, I can send you details about the Mafu Mafu Talking Party. PM if you are interested.

Thanks everyone for the words of wisdom!

I don't know why Facebook didn't show anyone up when I first did a search, but then I finally got into groups and found a few communities for Morioka/Iwate. A lot of new people just arrived, so I hope I can meet with them so we can all vent hehehee.

I am checking out Lalalala (looks like fun!). Did a little exploring on couchsurfing, what an interesting website Very Happy

I hope this little post helped some other people out. I'm a lot better now X3
