Hi,
B.Ph.Ed (physical education) + CELTA + 2.5 years experience in New Zealand and South Korea (1.5 tertiary level). About to start MA TESOL via distance learning (Victoria Uni, New Zealand).
Only want to teach adults. Not looking for a demanding schedule so I have time for the MA.
Considering my minimal experience and qualifications, who should I approach and what kind of salary should I expect? My contract here finishes mid-August so I'm hoping for job starting in September. I'm looking at Kuwait and Saudi because of the salary. I'm well travelled in Europe, U.K. and Asia but I'm yet to experience the ME culture.
I know it's different for everyone, but what kind of savings could I expect? In South Korea I could save nearly US$2000 a month (before the won dropped); eating out a few times a week; minimal shopping; sports and a small amount for socializing. I'd like to know if this is a reasonable goal here.
Thanks for your help in advance. |

i don't see you landing a position teaching english to adults on such a thin resume
better off teaching p.e. at a private school - how hard can that be? no homework to grade and no parents kicking in your door because mohd failed pe.....
550-650 kd monthly free housing - saving 1/3 to 1/2 that |

Thanks for the reply. Looks like I may have to re-think my, "I'll won't teach kids again" position. I'll change it to, "I won't teach Korean kids again".
I have a bachelor's degree in P.E. but I'm not a qualified New Zealand teacher (need an extra 1 year diploma for that). Is it still posible to teach at private schools? |

in a lower ranking school, yes
btw - if you can't handle korean kids, you'll never be able to handle arab kids...might want to rethink teaching in the ME until you're really settled as a teacher - and the arab adults come with their own sets of management challenges.... |

thanks, good advice. After reading the boards a bit more I think it's best to hold off, get my MA, get some more experience and then go to the ME. That way I can get a University job.
thanks |
