You sure, I think his name was Rolf myself there old bean.
To be precise, the contract doesn't say we'll get fined for missing lesson plans. It merely says disciplinary action for whatever can result in fines.
Had they put something like this in the contract I never would have signed the damn thing.
Not a chance in hell.
So to update the situation, my employer has refused to back down, and is insisting that random checks be made. I've already had my lesson plans checked off and I'm in the clear.
Just a little bit ago I was told about a possible position in a branch of the company for the job of teacher trainer.
I'll be taking this job and moving on.
Fare thee well, moron. |

I dont think the rule sounds so unreasonable to be honest. Also, in the initial post, it says 3 missing lesson plans incur the fine? That suggests your employer will accept you accidently losing one without punishment.
I personally would prefer NOT to have this ruling over me, but by the same token, if you are offered a contract which has some clauses or rules within it, you cant really get miffed when your employer (quite rightly) decides to enforce them.
I also think the rules arent really there to punish you, someone who (as you suggest) completes lesson plans but may lose one, but are perhaps there for another teacher who submits nothing, plans nothing, and maybe then often teaches nothing.
I had a job in an unrelated profession, and had a boss I really liked working for. He used to tell us, 'these are my rules, I expect you to follow em ... if you dont, Im going to ask you to leave and get someone who will follow them ...' Which I guess is kinda fair really.
I have a contract with an organisation within the UK now, and they also impose a few rules, one of which covers me reaching certain standards or I will lose my contract. This is a blanket rule, yet none of the classroom teachers complain about it, and we do our best to abide by it. I cant help but think if the whole organisation and its employees where transported to China ... everyone would then moan and complain about the same ruling. |
You make some good points here, but...
This new rule isn't clearly highlighted in our contract. We have a one word mention of fine half way through on the second page.
Had they put in black and white that your 3rd missed lesson will get you a full day of pay worth of fine I never would have signed the thing.
I'm all for people doing their lesson plans. I don't even mind some sort of consequence for repeat offenders.
It is part of the job so suck it up and do it.
I do object to having something like this thrown at me 2 months into my 6 month contract.
Doesn't really matter to me as hopefully I'm off to a better position with less idiots that dance their way up the stairs and pretend to be a school headmaster. |

I dont think I would like it either, but if it keeps some of the worst teachers away from the school I work at ... I 'think' I would accept this or similar rulings.
Just make sure you keep filing those lesson plans! And good luck in the hunt for another job. I booked my tickets last night for my next job in China ... I will have to check my contract now just in case! |

I've already had my assistant manager go over my folders to check. I've filed a few that were inexplicably missing. On top of that I'm making copies of all of my lesson plans from the past 7 weeks of the semester to ensure no more inexplicable disappearances of lesson plans.
Still, I almost signed a one year contract with this diseased old crook. I'm overjoyed with the idea that I didn't because of the high possibility of getting a much better paying job elsewhere.
Wooo hoo...
Onward to bigger and better. |
