I have seen a TES.CO.UK advert for ELT teachers for the Ministry of Civil Service Affairs and Housing. Doha Qatar.
I haven't come across them on discussion boards - anyone out there got information?
Thanks |

I had some colleagues who left QP and went on to work at this place. I don't remember any of them complaining too much about it. They were on a higher salary than me but they didn't get any accommodation |

Thanks for that.
How much will accommodation cost in Qatar? My needs are basic - one bedroom apartment, quiet area etc. What will utilities cost?
And (more fundamentally) - what is an average salary for an English teacher in Qatar? Is there any chance of night class work?
These answers will help me make up my mind about Qatar.
Thanks again

I am well aware of this place....beware...they have a very bad reputation. teachers are not happy. I know a few people who work there and can't wait to leave. It's split-shift for one....and very disorganized. That'd be bad enough, but worse than that is the negative atmosphere. As far as comparing them to QP, they make the same amount of money, and they do have decent living accomodations. Not true that you pay for them. Ministry provides furnished accom. The director is a real tyrant from what I've heard...trust me, you could probably do better. Their teachers don't stay........Education City is opening up in Qatar, Qatar Academy or Qatar Foundation have excellent facilities and they pay very well. Never heard any complaints about either..... |

A dire place for what I've heard. Not too many native-speaker teachers left and those are still there are constantly job-hunting. Very poor management. One or two jumped over to the Gulag. |

Hardly any native speakers left in this place. They are moving to new premises in Sulaita Jedid, just opposite Montaza Park and the megalithic Holiday Hotel. The classrooms are supposed to be first class. |

You're right. The staff keeps dwindling. Maybe they will go the way of the Language Center. I wonder if the new CCQ will take over some of their classes. There has been talk for years about this place closing down or being subcontracted. I once met a woman who worked there. She was cute but very loud and outspoken. I think she is still in Qatar somewhere. She was always complaining about this place (she was a real nagger and whiner in some ways.)I remember the teachers were housed in a nice pad somewhere in the middle of town. |

Apparently time is running out and it may go the way of the Gulag. It's not a bad little place, it used to be much better. However, they got rid of most of the teachers and are operating a skeleton staff so it looks like the rumors may be true. Allegedly the students will be sent to the new community college, but so far I've not heard this particular tale confirmed. |
