Hello everyone

I have just spent 9 nights in the new Shanghai East International Hospital in Pudong. It is a joint venture between the U.S. Govt. and the Chinese Govt. and it is only a couple of months old.

If anyone gets sick while in Shanghai I can really recommend it. A lot of the Doctors and staff speaking English and the food was really delicious as it came in from a 5 star Hotel over the Road for the non-Chinese patients. It must have been an Italian Restaurant as all the food was Italian. The Bread nearly gave me an orgasm after more than 6 months of sweet bread!

Of course my Travel Insurance company back in Australia did NOT want me admitted to Hospital - they would have to foot the bill. They wanted me flown back to Australia but I said the only way I would agree to that was in a BOX. Fortunately the Chinese Doctor - who has spent a lot of time in Australia, told them I was dehydrated and too ill to travel.

I have lost 15 KILO in weight and will not know all the results until about Wed. but I AM NOT LEAVING MY ORPHANS. Dr. Lee said that although it would not be covered by Insurance any longer I could have any operation etc. here in China, and that is what I plan to do, if it is necessary.

I arrived back at the School yesterday along with Sammie from the U.S.A., her female travelling companion and Sammie's 8 year old adopted deaf Son from Thailand. She has had him for two years. She is here to pick up her new Son (also deaf) from my Orphanage. He is 5 this sunday. She actually picks him up in Nanjing, which is 3 hours from here, but they allowed her to visit him here with me a couple of times this weekend. PROGRESS!!!!

I am not feeling the best, but I will have to put on a good front for the couple of days that Sammie is here as they are staying at the School with me. The are occuplying two of the vacant flats - just another example of HOW GOOD my School is to me.

Dear Rhoda,
I, for one, have missed you, and I'm sure I'm not alone in that feeling. Another thing I'm sure of is that the orphans are mighty glad you're back, too. I've been wondering about your absence from these boards, but assumed it was simply because you were too busy. You didn't mention why you were in (the) hospital (trying to make both British and American speakers happy here), but I hope that it will prove to be nothing serious when you get the results. Lots of people would probably like to lose 15 pounds, but not that way. Please give my regards to Sammie, her travelling companion and her two sons. And please keep me updated on your situation.

I am only firing on about three and a half cylinders I think, but at my age, that is about all you can expect!
