Im currently teaching English to primary levels in Bangkok, after taking a TEFL and TEYL course last year, and have previously done voluntary work in a school in South Africa, but wondered how easy it is to get a job there without a degree? can anyone advise of schools or agencies i can approach? Ive already tried looking on the gumtree website...
thanks!

You don't mention where you're from, but have a look at www.sasts.org.za.

Hi
Why do you want to go to SA?
Contrary to popular "press" belief, it is NOT such a 3rd world place. It has extremey modern highways and cities. The Standard education system in the urban areas is of a much higher standard than that in the UK (personal experience).
If you are looking for an experience teaching TEFL in Africa, I suggest you look northward to Kenya, Malawi, Zambia etc.
The reality is that English is taught as a 1st language in ALL African schools and in most government schools in SA, it is either a 1st or 2nd language. So the need for TEFL is not great.

The need for TEFL is not great for locals, but there are many language schools that offer English to foreigners.

So, if you want to teach English to Africans, South Africa would probably not be the best place, as wpshark implies.
