Well I am a Cake Taster rather than a Poetaster not that RK was the latter.
Have to say there is a striking resemblance between the photo your link referred me to and the one in my first passport, my passport photo also bore some resemblance to Lord Lucan, which always seemed to provoke a double take at immigration and customs for quite a few years, just glad I didn't look like Shergar
Question? Why do posters have avatars and do they in any way give you an indication of what the poster is like?
I notice Scot47 is blank(see JS and Mr T's posts. )

Why do posters have avatars? Hmm, probably for a number of different reasons, including the answer to the question, "Why do dogs lick their you know whats? Because they can.
My guess, though, is that many people have avatars for the same reason that they wear T-shirts with stuff written on them (e.g. "I DEMAND JUSTICE - but if there must be injustice, let it be in my favor." from despair.com) and have bumper stickers on their cars (e.g. "Carpe Ma�ana" - very popular here in New Mexico.) That is, to attract attention (not that it works that well), to express an aspect of their personality (trapezius' may fall into this category) or to indicate a personal like/dislike (mine is in that category.)
But, as mentioned, there may be many other reasons as well. So, some might give a correct indication of what a poster's like, while others may not (I think Mr. K's avatar (the moderator, Mr. K) is likely a good indication of his personality.)

Bored of the Onion Rings


Well it depends on who or what you are but.........Thank Allah for boring weekends, and anyway if you have a family, life is never boring and the KSA is not noted for its rave parties so those that are into that or booze or clubs probably won't have KSA at the top of their list and if they do, they will be there for money which is alright, so long, as JS says, you have to pay for it by exchanging cash for time. It doesn't mean you have to forfeit a social life, which I hope is active and........life is what you make it........if there isn't a social life then make one and if that's not possible then its back to the basis of all societies whether in the ME, Europe or the rest of the world and that's the home and hearth.
OHHhhhh I came over all philosophical there Miss Jones.

On a lighter note, if you get bored with the family then take up baking and put a bun in the oven. Personally I always get a rise out of that

It's helpful to be the kind of individual who is self-sufficient and has a lot of inner resources, someone who can amuse her/himself in various ways: reading, writing, the Net, TV, etc.

Pascal thought this:

While a social life, even in Riyadh, is possible, it has to be actively pursued.

Of course, it was Virginia Woolf who wrote that, and, as we all know, she offed herself.

Well that's a surprise; old Virginia topping herself, you learn something every day. I remember when she won Wimbledon back in 77 and to think she could knock off a decent line or two...her backhand wasn't bad either.
