Tsunatuna, the info I received from my ward specifically asked for a copy of my ARC and bank details. My husband is Japanese and had to provide copies of his driver's license and bank book, and my non-Japanese friends all had to provide copies of their ARCs and bank books. It's pretty obvious that without that information, anyone who got a hold of the papers could claim your money, so I don't think it's strange at all for them to ask you to prove your identity and that it is your bank account.

What I do think is strange is that your non-Japanese co-workers haven't also been phoned and asked for copies, since as far as I know, everyone in the country has to provide ID and proof that it is their bank account- the instructions that came with the forms specifically and clearly asked for them.

It may vary by location. My forms say I have until October.

If your Japanese friend helped and had all the instructions, it's strange they didn't tell you that copies of your bank book and alien card were required.

Don't sweat it. Make the copies and you'll be ok. The government is probably sweating about all the snafus this year.

Then closed again until Thursday May 7.
